Peanuts

Lately, I've been addicted to roasted peanuts. That's really neither here nor there, I just felt like sharing. I bought a jar for our road trip to Oregon--thinking that would be a good way to get protein into The Rock Star while we were trekking. I ended up devouring most of the jar. Last week I bought another jar for our road trip to California which we'll be taking next week. Given that it's currently half full, I'm thinking it won't survive until we leave next Wednesday. See how I did that there? See how I said it was half full and not half empty? That does not give you insight into whether I'm an optimist or a pessimist. Truth be told, I'm neither. I like to think of myself as an Ideal Realist. Hint: That's so not a real thing.

But it's exactly what I am. A basic working definition of idealism is the act or practice of envisioning things in an ideal form. The definition of realism is the inclination towards literal truth and pragmatism. I'm totally inclined to see things the way they are and the way they have been. Therefore, I highly doubt that both of my boys will be angelic little cherubs on our peanutless road trip next week. But! (You're not even supposed to start a sentence with that word, let alone make it a sentence all by itself! Red pen clad English teachers would convulse if they could only see me now. Anyway.) But! I envision a road trip where they are peaceful from start to finish--my kids, that is, not the English teachers. While I assume the worst (realist) I hope for the best (idealist).

That's so not even what I started writing about though. What I wanted to know is if you've ever had completely bizarre cravings pop up out of the middle of nowhere. And they do not count if your unborn child was demanding venison or Pop Rocks or jalapenos or laundry detergent. No, seriously, I've heard of that happening. But pregnancy doesn't count. No unborn children going on here. Just a somewhat sudden and incredibly odd attraction to roasted peanuts. For real, I'm considering asking this jar out on a date. Yes, of course I'm consuming them as I type. We're in a relationship.

So what things can you suddenly just not live without?

  1. I've heard of pregnant women also drinking bleach and eating cockroaches.

  2. Okay, Jenni? That's gross, really? I've heard of dirt, clay and freezer frost...but bleach and bugs? Ick!

    Lori,
after visiting the Dub's in June I totally was on a pickled Jalapeno kick, YUM! Not so much now, but boy howdy did I go through those for awhile.

  3. 'Everything' Bagel Chips from Costco. Won't even buy them because they won't stay in the pantry. Stupid things just get down off of the shelf, open the door, find me no matter where I hide and then FORCE me to eat them. Unbelievable.

  4. hickory stix. its a canadian thing. they are little shoestring potato pieces that taste like potato chips except that the flavor is a smoky, hickory taste, (nothing like sweet bbq flavor). my mom sometimes brings a bag down for me when she visits. they are greasy, delicious and oh so addicting.

  5. The high school English teacher would get out his/her red pen. The college English professor would tell you that rules were made to be broken. :-D

Pistachios and mangoes become addictive to me once I start eating them. :) Maybe it's a nut thing...

  7. You can count on it...every fall candy corn beckons to me. But I am a candy corn snob and only Brachs will do. Day after Halloween candy sales, here I come. J

  8. Man, now I'm hungry. I second pistachios and candy corn. And also Red Vines. If I were to ever buy the giant tub at Costco, it would be gone within a few days. And I would be immobile on my couch in a sugar coma. Mmmmmm. Verification word: woomho. I think I'm addicted to woomho.

  10. shredded mini wheats. I don't think about them until they are in the house and then that is all i can think about until the box is gone. I eat them without milk too. And always chocolate. I can't even keep it in the house.

  12. Renee-I had popcorn and M&M's last night! Sooo good. I was "sharing" with my husband and he apparently noticed how voraciously I went for the M&M's and said, "Its OK, i won't eat any of your M&M's." haha.I mean, popcorn is one thing, but popcorn and M&M's together...

But my biggest weakness is for milkshakes, particularly chocolate ones. And I have high cholesterol! :(

  13. oh my gosh. I just decided that I'm starving.

I am now craving every single thing listed here. I can't even think about what my real cravings are anymore. for reals. I'm too busy thinking about, like, brownie flavoured hickory stick pickled jalepeno bagel chips.

  16. I have never liked mustard in all my 30 years. Never...maybe occationally if someone snuck it on a burger I wouldn't wipe it off, but Never, Never on a sandwich.

...and then one day I shared a sandwich with Jory and my half ended up with a tiny bit of his mustard on it...now I can't have a sandwich without it. I can't help it. I don't know what happened to me. How do I fix it?
